About the Role

Provides classroom and environmental supports, under the direction of a special education teacher, to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEP) served in general and special education locations. Performs routine clerical and instructional assignments within established procedures and standard practices. Requires professional ethics in handling confidential student and family information.

Responsibilities

  • Assists special education teachers with classroom duties, including recording grades, preparing instructional materials, and administering instructional and testing accommodations.
  • Supports students during instructional activities (e.g., one-on-one, in small groups, during whole group instruction) as directed by the special education teacher; documents student progress.
  • Assists students onto and off the school bus and supervises students at lunch, recess as indicated in the child’s IEP.
  • Serves as an aide on the school bus, both to and from school, as indicated in the child’s IEP.
  • Works with students under the direction of the special education teacher(s) and related services providers to implement the child’s IEP.
  • Participates in training and implementing support for students related to toileting, personal care, and basic healthcare needs (e.g., using a Hoyer lift, tube feeding, seizure intervention) as indicated in the child’s IEP.
  • Implements accommodations in a child’s IEP as directed by the special education teacher.
  • Provides clerical assistance – typing, filing, maintaining records, and ordering supplies and classroom materials.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Some knowledge of childhood growth and development, behavior management techniques, and clerical procedures.
  • Knowledge of general academic subjects sufficient to teach others.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise children in the absence of the special education teacher.
  • Ability to perform basic clerical tasks, communicate effectively orally and in writing, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work professionally with students and staff.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, training, or experience sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification (training provided and renewal mandated).
  • Assignment placement may require additional training, such as specific training on aspects of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • Successful completion of background investigations/tests: Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal History Investigation, State Police Criminal History Investigation, Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigation, and Tuberculosis Screening/Test.

Pay

$22,246.99 - $40,567.72

Schedule

6.5 hours per day, 183 days per year
