Instructional Assistant - Special Education 1:1
General Description
Provides classroom and environmental supports, under the direction of a special education teacher, to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEP) served in general and special education locations. Performs routine clerical and instructional assignments within established procedures and standard practices. Contacts are made within and outside the department; Requires professional ethics in the handling of confidential student and family information.
Essential Job Functions
- Assists special education teachers with classroom duties, including, but not limited to recording grades, preparing instructional materials, and administering instructional and testing accommodations.
- Documents student progress as directed by the special education teacher.
- Serves as an aide on the school bus, both to and from school, as indicated in the child’s IEP.
- Works with students under the direction of the special education teacher(s) and related services providers, as appropriate, to implement the child’s IEP.
- Participates in training and implementing support for students related to toileting, personal care, and basic healthcare related needs (e.g., using a Hoyer lift, tube feeding, seizure intervention) as indicated in the child’s IEP. May serve in the absence of the clinic assistant if trained in procedures.
- Implements accommodations in a child’s IEP as directed by the special education teacher.
- Provides clerical assistance – typing, filing, maintaining records and ordering supplies and classroom materials.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Some knowledge of childhood growth and development, behavior management techniques and clerical procedures;
- Of general academic subjects sufficient to teach others.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise children in the absence of the special education teacher;
- To perform basic clerical tasks, communicate effectively orally and in writing and follow oral and written instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to work professionally with students, staff.
Additional Job Requirements
- High School diploma, training, or experience sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Current First Aid/CPR /AED certification.
- Must attend provided training and renew as mandated.
- Assignment placement may require additional training requirements such as and/or specific training on aspects of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Compensation
$21,399.49 - $38,163.61
