About the role
This Instructional Assistant position supports the classroom teacher in a Catholic school setting, helping to plan, guide, and educate students within a Christ-centered environment. The role involves assisting with instruction, classroom management, and student supervision while upholding the school’s mission and Catholic values.
Responsibilities
- Assist the classroom teacher in preparing instructional materials, bulletin boards, and teaching aids
- Support learning activities as defined by the teacher, including small group instruction and student supervision
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student, donor, and school information
- Adhere to safety protocols and take precautionary measures to ensure the well-being of students and staff
- Assist with student supervision before, during, and after school, including bus loading/unloading and playground duty
- Help enforce classroom rules and maintain appropriate student records
- Escort or transport students to and from classrooms, clinic, or cafeteria as required
- Check objective tests and mark errors (not assign grades)
- Provide instructional assistance and lead small group activities under teacher direction
- Assist students with personal hygiene, health, safety, or grooming needs when required
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to create a quality instructional environment
- Model Gospel values and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education
- Follow all school and Archdiocese policies, including Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees
- Demonstrate initiative, strong work ethic, and effective communication skills
- Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events
- Prepare or assist in preparing required reports and maintain appropriate records
- Participate in cross-training and other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education; OR Associate’s degree or higher; OR equivalent knowledge and ability to assist in core subject instruction
- Experience working with children in settings such as day camps, youth groups, private schools, or licensed day-care centers
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and valid vehicle insurance
- Must pass Archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening
- Must pass Texas DPS Fingerprint-based Applicant Clearinghouse screening
