About the role

This Instructional Assistant position supports the classroom teacher in a Catholic school setting, helping to plan, guide, and educate students within a Christ-centered environment. The role involves assisting with instruction, classroom management, and student supervision while upholding the school’s mission and Catholic values.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the classroom teacher in preparing instructional materials, bulletin boards, and teaching aids
  • Support learning activities as defined by the teacher, including small group instruction and student supervision
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student, donor, and school information
  • Adhere to safety protocols and take precautionary measures to ensure the well-being of students and staff
  • Assist with student supervision before, during, and after school, including bus loading/unloading and playground duty
  • Help enforce classroom rules and maintain appropriate student records
  • Escort or transport students to and from classrooms, clinic, or cafeteria as required
  • Check objective tests and mark errors (not assign grades)
  • Provide instructional assistance and lead small group activities under teacher direction
  • Assist students with personal hygiene, health, safety, or grooming needs when required
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to create a quality instructional environment
  • Model Gospel values and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education
  • Follow all school and Archdiocese policies, including Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees
  • Demonstrate initiative, strong work ethic, and effective communication skills
  • Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events
  • Prepare or assist in preparing required reports and maintain appropriate records
  • Participate in cross-training and other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education; OR Associate’s degree or higher; OR equivalent knowledge and ability to assist in core subject instruction
  • Experience working with children in settings such as day camps, youth groups, private schools, or licensed day-care centers
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and valid vehicle insurance
  • Must pass Archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening
  • Must pass Texas DPS Fingerprint-based Applicant Clearinghouse screening

  • Ability to plan and implement instructional activities
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate a variety of technology and equipment

  • Physical ability to lift students if required by job assignment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills
