Essential Job Functions
- Assist in instructional activities and supervision of students in a structured (regular education classes) and unstructured (lunchroom, playground, field trips, bus) environment.
- Assist in behavior management strategies and consequences.
- May assist with self-help skills (diapering, toilet needs, personal hygiene, feeding, GI tube feeding, dressing, etc.) or health care procedures (charting and dispensation of medications, tube feeding, suctioning, etc.).
- May work with wheelchair or ambulatory students in small groups or on an individual basis.
- May be required to lift or restrain students weighing up to 80 pounds.
- May transport student(s) in school vans into the community for school-related activities.
- Other duties as assigned by the administrator or the classroom teacher.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk a minimum of 2 miles per day.
- Ability to bend, stand, and stoop multiple times per day.
- Ability to place students weighing up to 80 pounds in Crisis Prevention Intervention approved protective holds as defined by Act 125.
- Ability to maneuver students weighing up to 80 pounds in wheeled mobility equipment (wheelchair, stroller, etc).
- Ability to position or support an assisted transfer of a student weighing up to 80 pounds.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Dependable driving and work record a must.
- Positive and friendly work attitude.
- Must have DPI Spec. Ed. Program Aide certification or be willing to become certified.
- Must be able to work flexible hours.
- Be knowledgeable and physically capable of lifting/restraining students weighing up to 80 pounds.
- Ability to get along and communicate well with staff, students, and parents.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to use computer equipment and other assistive technology devices.
- Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
