About the Role

Under moderate oversight, incumbents assist faculty by working with students individually or in groups to improve academic knowledge and technical skill in mathematics. This role also involves training and overseeing student workers, tutors, and/or temporary Instructional Assistants.

Responsibilities

  • Assist faculty in overseeing Mathematics Tutorial Centers and support students individually or in groups to master subject material.
  • Direct the use of computer-assisted instruction materials and maintain a collection of resource materials.
  • Maintain computer databases and records of instructional materials and equipment.
  • Assist with recruiting, training, and coordinating student workers and temporary employees, including hiring, evaluation, and payroll processes.
  • Proctor exams and maintain records of attendance and evaluations.
  • Assist in scheduling and managing staffing processes for the center.
  • Support instructors with instructional research, including tests and test modules for accuracy and design.
  • Assist with word processing related to instructional and testing materials.
  • Develop training materials, including syllabi and visual aids.
  • Establish rapport with students, tutors, and faculty.
  • Assist faculty or staff with student conferences, laboratory or field research.
  • Assist with the production and dissemination of materials that advertise services.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in mathematics tutorial work or other related positions.
  • Completion of an Associate's Degree in Mathematics or 60 semester units (90 quarter units) with 21 units in mathematics courses.

Note: Experience Requirement: One year of experience equals 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time experience will be converted to full-time equivalent. Education Requirement: One year of education equals 30 semester units. Education must be from an accredited institution.
