Position Information

Elementary Locations: Andrews, Bassette, Phenix, Smith
Supervisor(s): Building Principals
Employment Period: 10 months
Employment Status: Part-time (up to 25 hours/week)
Pay Grade: H-09
2026-2027 Salary Range: $17.75--$26.05 per hour

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Aids in planning and implementing instructional activities
  • Monitors students in the classroom to ensure they are completing assigned work and following classroom instruction
  • Provides assistance to students as needed
  • Supervises individualized and small group activities as directed by classroom teacher
  • Modifies and tailors instructional activities to reach achievement goals for individual students and targeted student groups
  • Administers assessment tools to assess student abilities related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes
  • Assists in maintaining appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting
  • Auxiliary in student monitoring and control activities in the classroom and other parts of the school, on school grounds, and at off-site activities
  • Escorts students to assemblies, resource services, and other classes
  • Communicates with parents, in both written and oral formats, to keep them informed of student progress and activities
  • Communicates with students, parents, and professionals and support personnel in and outside the school to share information and to support/encourage involvement in student education
  • Auxiliary in the preparation and maintenance of bulletin boards, displays, classroom decorations, and other instructional aids
  • Performs clerical work related to instructional activities such as grading assignments, monitoring attendance, keeping lunch counts, collecting fees, maintaining files of student work, and sorting, filing, and duplicating of instructional materials
  • Auxiliary in the preparation and putting away of equipment and supplies such as recreational and vocational materials
  • Maintains a comfortable learning environment for students with regard to cleanliness, good ventilation and lighting, and proper seating
  • May assist in light maintenance and cleaning of toileting and eating areas as needed
  • Participates in staff development activities and attends staff meetings as required by school administrator
  • Sporadically serves as a substitute teacher at assigned school as necessary to provide continuity of instruction when teacher is unavailable

Job Requirements

  • Requires an associate's degree or achievement of a qualifying score on the HCS IA Assessment test
  • Experience or education related to working with students in an instructional setting preferred
  • General knowledge of basic reading, writing, and mathematics subject matter
  • Some knowledge of basic instructional strategies preferred
  • Some knowledge of basic child learning and development principles preferred
  • Ability to apply basic instructional concepts and subject matter in a classroom environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents, and others
  • Ability to comprehend and apply written and oral instructions in order to assist in implementing instructional activities
  • Ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and diverse levels of educational achievement and ability
  • Ability to utilize modern computer technology to assist with student instruction and learning
