About the role

The Instructional Assistant (IA) supports classroom teachers in various activities and creates a safe, healthy, and encouraging environment for students.

Responsibilities

  • Aids teachers in planning and organizing lessons
  • Evaluates instructional activities and prepares necessary materials
  • Assists with vision and hearing screenings
  • Maintains a positive disposition and responds calmly to students
  • Collaborates with teachers to devise strategies for reinforcing skills and concepts

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience in a childhood setting (6 documented semester hours of coursework in childhood education or 2 years of work experience)
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification (if required by the school)
  • CPR and First Aid certification (preferred)

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Apps
  • Working knowledge of core subjects at the grade level to which employment assignment is made
  • Ability to recognize and support students of diverse backgrounds, learning abilities, and learning styles
  • Ability to protect the confidentiality of personally identifiable information in accordance with FERPA and other applicable laws
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with others
  • Ability to motivate students and communicate clearly and concisely
  • Ability to implement academic and behavioral interventions

Pay

Schedule

The work week schedule is Monday-Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends. The Workday must not exceed more than 40 hours per week, and begins at least 30 minutes prior to the instructional day for students.
