INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT II

About the role

The position offers several vacancies across different special education classifications. Typical hours are 5.5 hours per day. Applications are accepted online until qualified candidates are found.

Responsibilities

• Assists students with various physical handicaps, learning disabilities, emotional or behavioral problems on a one-to-one or group basis.
• Independently adjusts methods/approach/pace of instructional material.
• Maintains student discipline in group activities.
• Performs classroom support activities.
• Maintains a variety of records.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent plus 48 semester or 72 quarter units of college coursework, an Associate or higher degree from an accredited college or university, or pass an assessment demonstrating knowledge of assisting in teaching, reading, writing, and mathematics.
• Experience: At least 6 months of experience working with students or school-age children in a school, health services, or other structured environment; experience working with special education students is desirable.

Qualifications

• Positions in the specialized language classes require incumbents to work with non- and limited English speaking students in their primary language.
• Must have a valid and current Basic/Standard First Aid Certificate and a Child and Adult CPR Certificate.
• Successful completion of up to 12 hours of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training is required during the probationary period.

• Instructional Assistant II - Bilingual (Spanish) - $21.29 - $25.92
• Instructional Assistant II - Bilingual/Biliterate (Spanish) - $21.77 - $26.55

Exam Information

The exam may consist of a structured interview, bilingual evaluation, and biliterate evaluation.

Advanced Salary Step Placement

New employees are normally placed at Step A of the appropriate salary range. Advanced salary step placement is available for employees upon their initial hire.

Veterans Credit

Eligible veterans with 30 days or more of active service during a time of war or national emergency may receive an additional credit of five (5) points, and disabled veterans receive ten (10) additional points.

Education Stipend

Permanent employees with an earned Bachelor’s or Master’s degree beyond the requirements for their position are eligible for a stipend starting the 2022-23 school year. Transcripts must be provided to be eligible.
