Instructional Assistant

Qualifications

• Command of the English language.
• Knowledge of pertinent academic areas and learning situations, as well as general needs and behaviors of students and students' recreational activities involving sports, games, arts and crafts.
• Ability to understand the needs of high school students and to effectively relate to these needs in a learning or recreational situation.
• Ability to learn the requirements of students in specific learning programs to which assigned.
• Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
• Ability to supervise students in a variety of situations.
• Ability to establish and maintain accurate classroom records and files.
• Ability to operate standard office equipment including computer keyboarding, copy machines, tape recorders and projectors.
• Ability to maintain calm and patience in stressful situations.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
• Clerical experience and work involving the supervision of students is desirable.
• High School Diploma or G.E.D. and one of the following: proof of passing Paraprofessional Exam from any district; AA Degree or higher; at least 48 college units or 72 quarter units.
• A criminal history check will be required of successful candidate prior to employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist a certificated teacher in the instruction, supervision and training of an individual or group of students by providing a variety of instructional support, student care activities, and related duties in the maintenance of an effective learning environment.
• Under supervision, provide a variety of responsible instructional support activities to enhance the educational environment within the district and require a high degree of positive contact with both students and certificated staff.

Pay

Starting salary: $2,249.00 per month.

Schedule

Position is for 9.4 months (to begin as soon as possible). Daily working hours: 6 hours, 8:35 a.m. to 3:19 p.m.
