About the role

Instructional Aide positions are for the purpose of providing a variety of complex support processes to the instructional program within the assigned setting(s) with specific responsibility for assisting and designing the daily care of students with significant learning challenges. These positions support students with significant social emotional or behavioral health needs in alternative settings.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students in the alternative setting, in their home schools, and the community
  • Implement individualized learning plans, collect any necessary data, and collaborate on the continued development of student programming
  • Maintain accurate records in reference to the program
  • Maintain confidentiality according to district policy and procedures as well as FERPA laws
  • Collaborate with all program staff on individual student programs, building systems, and processes
  • Provides verbal and/or written feedback of observations for the purpose of informing teacher/s and other personnel of students' progress
  • Behavioral Interventions: Provide direct behavioral interventions to teach communication, social, and daily living skills while reducing problematic behaviors in various environments
  • Implement Crisis Procedures: Implement crisis/emergency procedures according to protocol
  • This position requires prompt and consistent attendance
  • Adapt or modify instructional activities under the direction of the classroom teacher and/or program staff with the purpose of supporting, implementing, and reinforcing student learning
  • Attend meetings and in-service presentations as directed by the building administrator (CPI, MANDT, emergency procedures, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and conveying information relative to job functions
  • Operates equipment (assistive technology, devices, etc.) to support the delivery of instructional programs

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with high school students, preferred

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications.
  • Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include behavior and crisis management techniques; instruction techniques; and elementary - high school curriculum.
  • Maintaining confidentiality; working with frequent interruptions; communicating in a positive, non-threatening manner; and building effective relationships with teachers, staff, and students.
