Job Summary

Core Responsibilities

• Assists in preparing the classroom or laboratory for instruction.
• Helps prepare and distribute lesson materials.
• Instructs students under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
• Maintains individual student records as requested.
• Maintains a neat, clean, and orderly classroom to support learning.
• Supports learning activities using effective resources.
• Uses exceptional classroom techniques such as questioning, assignment clarity, and fostering a respectful, supportive environment.
• Guides children in harmonious interactions and promotes responsible citizenship.
• Shares responsibility for marketing the academy in the community.
• Participates in developing policies and regulations affecting instruction.
• Collaborates with staff to enhance professional and cooperative relationships.
• Ensures the learning environment is orderly and safe.

Essential Skills and Competencies

• Two years of study at an institution of higher education or an associate's degree.
• Knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
• Ability to communicate professionally with students, staff, and guardians.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Bachelor's degree or valid state of Michigan Teaching Certificate preferred.
• Experience working with at-risk students.
• Experience in an educational setting with school-age children.
