Primary Function
Support teachers in implementing an integrated, standards-based curriculum that utilizes constructivist instructional methods in the appropriate subject matter and grade level.
Support teachers in creating and maintaining a healthy and safe learning environment that demonstrates respect for all and supports student success.
Essential Functions
- Support the Teacher in the delivery of a prepared curriculum.
- Affiliate with maintaining a classroom environment that supports learning utilizing constructivist methods.
- Utilize and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
- Provide information to the Teacher as requested in a timely manner, as necessary, to assist with planning, assessment, and review of progress.
- Collaborate with peers (grade level, cluster, enrichment, special education team, volunteers, etc.) in order to enhance the instructional environment.
- Build personal relationships with all students that demonstrate respect and compassion.
- Help to maintain a classroom atmosphere that is safe, accepting, positive, and interactive.
- Under the supervision of the Teacher, adapt instruction to enrich the academic experience and serve diverse learning styles.
- Introduce all students to vocabulary, concepts, materials, and experiences to enhance overall academic opportunities and success.
- Affiliate with supervising a group of students in the temporary absence of the Teacher when notified by the Administration.
- Share your professional perspective with the Teacher through respectful and thoughtful dialogue to enhance instructional strategies.
- Cooperate with all recommendations and direction from the Teacher and/or your supervisor in all instructional situations.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students and other professionals on a regular basis.
- Communicate professionally and accurately with parents.
- Respond to communications (phone messages, emails, notes, etc.) in a respectful and timely manner.
- Participate professionally in scheduled meetings and trainings.
- Model professional behaviors and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the broader community.
- Maintain reliable, consistent attendance and punctuality.
Other Functions
- Periodically serve as a Lead Substitute (if credentialed).
- Affiliate with assisting in other school programs when necessary.

- Facilitation strategies and approaches to creating and maintaining an environment of safety, respect, and learning;
- Cultural and socio-economic differences in the student population;
- Conflict resolution strategies to support healthy social development in children;
- Class/group behavior management strategies;

Freelance Working Conditions
- Frequent use of computer screen.
- Occasionally involves working outdoors and exposure to inclement weather.
- Infrequently involves exposure to traffic congestion.
- May rarely involve exposure to biohazardous waste.
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications:
- (*) High School Diploma;
- (*) Minimum of two years of college (48 semester units completed);
- (*) Valid California 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit (preferred);
- (*) Familiarity working with students in a tutoring environment;
- (*) TB clearance & and DOJ fingerprint clearance;
- (*) Possess/maintain valid infant, child and Adult CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
