About the role

The instructional aide will work as an assistant teacher under the direction of the classroom teacher and the principal. The aide will assist the teacher in providing students with instruction in Spanish and English and in the planning and developing a positive learning environment focused on high academic achievement in two languages.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the teacher in providing students with instruction in Spanish and English
  • Work with pupils individually and in small group activities
  • Make and prepare instructional materials
  • Auxiliary supervision during recess and lunch
  • Collaborate with grade level, cluster, and whole-school teams of teachers, including specialists in the areas of ESL, SSL, and Special Education
  • Implement an academically and linguistically active curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and socially/culturally responsive to the needs of the dual language student population

Requirements

  • Associates degree, or 48 college credits from an accredited college or university
  • High levels or native language proficiency in Spanish and English, including listening, speaking, reading, grammar and writing
  • Willingness to be trained in de-escalation and safe physical restraint techniques
  • Physical ability to work on the floor and move around the room to support students and teachers in curriculum implementation, use of manipulatives and other instructional methods and materials
  • Previous and successful experience working in a multicultural environment and demonstrated implementation of culturally responsive practices that includes students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds

Qualifications

Though not all of the following may be required, the successful candidate will possess many of these characteristics and qualifications:

  • Native language proficiency in Spanish and English
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to implement culturally responsive practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively with grade level, cluster, and whole-school teams of teachers

Skills

  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of educational methodologies and materials

Pay

The pay for this position is $15 per hour.

Schedule
