Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to create a supportive, welcoming, and high-achieving learning environment.
  • Implement engaging, individualized instruction and behavioral interventions both on-site and in community settings.
  • Instruct and closely monitor students during classroom lessons, ensuring instructional fidelity and applying targeted strategies.
  • Encourage individual student growth by tracking progress and communicating with teachers about successes and areas needing intervention.
  • Manage student behavior effectively, reinforcing school policies and applying consistent disciplinary measures.
  • Support and mentor students facing academic challenges, helping them develop essential skills and confidence.
  • Complete and maintain accurate documentation of student behaviors and performance.
  • Communicate with students, colleagues, supervisors, and families about student needs, achievements, and concerns.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all student records.
  • Participate in assurance and accreditation activities to meet site performance standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Attend and participate in school-wide, student-parent, and advisory meetings to foster collaborative support networks and positive educational outcomes.
  • Respond positively to feedback and demonstrate continuous professional growth.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with passing of basic skills test.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in education or a closely related field of study preferred.
  • Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an IL state paraprofessional license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification in company-approved crisis management training.
  • Prior experience providing instruction, guidance, and/or support to children, preferably in an alternative, special education, and/or behavioral health program setting.
  • Skilled in working with children with learning disabilities, emotional behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorders, and/or other related disabilities.
  • Ability to think and act calmly in emergencies and make independent decisions.
  • Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Knowledge of relevant technology, including experience with instructional technology, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and basic office equipment.
