Instruction Coordinator

Academic Staff, Regular position within the University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries' Teaching & Learning Programs (TLP) office. TLP leads the library instruction program, online learning development, the Go Big Read common reading program, and instructional engagement & outreach for campus libraries.

About the role

The Instruction Coordinator leads the coordination of the Libraries’ instructional services for the undergraduate Communication-A requirement. This role designs, delivers, and assesses library instruction to support student learning and research, collaborates with Science and Engineering Libraries and Undergraduate Library Services Instruction Coordinators, and contributes to training the next generation of library instructors through the Student Library Instructors program. The position also supports the Library and Information Sciences Teaching & Learning Practicum (LIS 862) and engages in professional development and service on library and campus committees.

This position is eligible for partial remote work, with a maximum of 40% remote per week. Full-time, 100% ongoing/renewable role.

Responsibilities

• Chairs the Communication-A Coordination Committee and provides programmatic coordination of library instruction for the Communication-A undergraduate requirement.
• Designs, develops, and delivers library instruction in a variety of formats for undergraduate Communication-A courses.
• Leads the Student Library Instructor Program, including hiring, training, and supervising student instructors.
• Collaborates with Teaching & Learning Programs staff to foster community and provide professional development for library staff.
• Stays current with developments in pedagogy and librarianship through engagement in local, regional, and national professional organizations.
• Obtains materials, resolves complex and specialized issues, and answers questions (5%).
• Develops or coordinates specialized projects or programs (15%).
• Oversees day-to-day functions of one or more library operations or services (10%).
• Designs, develops, delivers, and assesses instruction for faculty, staff, students, and other patrons (15%).
• Serves as a liaison to academic disciplines and/or other campus units, providing information on collections, instructional and research support, and library services (10%).
• Actively participates in an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful workplace (5%).
• Serves as a resource to other librarians and staff outside of their unit (10%).
• Initiates and solicits input to modify policies, procedures, and assessment tools to improve workflows and/or user experiences (5%).
• May direct the day-to-day activities of student workers (5%).
• Cultivates and maintains productive relationships with donors, collectors, vendors, and professional colleagues (5%).
• Provides specialized services utilizing a high level of expertise on a broad range of disciplines or in a designated discipline area (10%).
• Serves on committees to advance librarianship at the campus, local, and/or state and national levels (5%).

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience providing information literacy instruction, secondary instruction, or post-secondary instruction.
• Demonstrated experience coordinating, leading, or managing instructional programs, projects, or initiatives.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, instructors, students, and library colleagues.
• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with mentoring or supervising student staff and/or early-career professionals.
• Experience with curriculum development and/or instructional design.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Experience assessing student learning and using assessment results to improve instruction.

Pay

Starting salary will be based on experience and qualifications. Well-qualified applicants can anticipate earning between $63,000 and $78,000.
