Institutions Teacher - MA, Oregon State Hospital, Junction City Campus - 2 positions

About the role

This position will remain open until filled and can close at any time at the agency’s discretion. The first screening of applications will occur Monday, September 14th, 2026, and every two weeks thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive education services that teach patients the essential skills needed to successfully transition back into the community and reach their full potential.
• Deliver individualized, student-centered learning objectives using assessment-driven and creative approaches.
• Advise, encourage, and support students as they pursue their education throughout their recovery journey.
• Provide Supported Education services to individuals or groups based on identified educational needs of the individual learner.
• Teach in a non-traditional environment with classroom instruction lasting four to six hours per day.
• Conduct individual one-on-one teaching for four to five patients, or eight to nine when support staff are present.
• Develop coursework tailored to each patient’s individual needs, with some patients requiring only access to resources to complete their educational goals.

Minimum Qualifications

• A master’s degree from an Oregon approved teacher education program.
• The ability to obtain an Oregon teaching license/certificate by time of appointment.

Desired Attributes

• Experience providing educational instruction and/or coaching to developmentally disabled or behavioral health patients in a locked institutional facility.
• Experience providing adult special education and assessment.
• Strong technical proficiency in AI and technical support.
• Experience with trauma-informed best practices.
• Experience developing individualized educational programs (IEPs).

Preference Statement

Applicants who have behavioral health teaching experience at the time of appointment may be extended preference.

Work environment

The Oregon State Hospital is a psychiatric hospital under the direction of the Oregon Health Authority that inspires hope, promotes safety, and supports recovery. The hospital employs over 2,000 FTE and serves over 600 patients each day on two campuses. Supported Education services are provided within this therapeutic, evidence-based, patient-centered treatment environment focused on patient recovery and community reintegration.

Pay

Salary range: $4,524 – $5,881 per month. If the successful candidate qualifies for PERS, the salary range will increase by 6.95%.
