Institutional Sales Trainee

Responsibilities

• Answer client inquires over the phone and via email
• Assist Institutional Sales team with daily activities
• Troubleshoot trade problems, check hedges and confirm trades with clients and dealers back-office teams
• Maintain databases and files
• Support the administrative needs of the office
• Obtain the necessary knowledge and skills to be successful in the brokerage industry

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required (Finance or Econ preferred)
• Must have or be willing to obtain Series 7 & 63 licenses within six months of hire
• Desire to learn the Institutional Sales business
• Strong PC skills including knowledge of MS office products and the Bloomberg Terminal
• 1-2 years previous industry or sales experience preferred
• Team player, comfortable working in a loud, fast-paced, deadline-drive environment
• Able to maintain a positive attitude even under extreme pressure
• Able to interact professionally with clients and colleagues
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Highly motivated, self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit interested in working in a competitive environment

About The Team

HilltopSecurities’ Fixed Income department has over 2,000 Tier I institutional and middle market clients in all 50 states. We focus on three classes of fixed income investments—municipal, taxable, and securitized products. We are able to access a wide range of investment products for our clients, such as GSE agencies, commercial paper, CDs, CMOs, municipals, and corporate and mortgage-backed municipal securities. Our total balance sheet for all products reaches $1 billion, thanks to our more than 100 sales and trading professionals across the country, each of whom provide keen financial guidance. Our department participates in syndication and primary issuance, as well as three types of sales and trading—fixed income, securitized products, and investment grade and high yield. Our capabilities also include supporting the primary issuance of negotiated and competitive securities, HFA pooled securities, and state HFA CMOs.
