About the role

The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SoM) is seeking to recruit an Institutional Research Director (Director of Academic and Assessment) in the department of Institutional Research Analysis (Effectiveness and Assessment).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation and implementation of processes and methodologies to assess student learning and evaluate the effectiveness of programs to graduate skilled medical practitioners.
  • Collaborates closely with faculty and leadership on academic development.
  • Supports continuous academic program assessment (curricular and co-curricular activities) and improvement of student learning through consultation, mentoring and hands-on training, to strengthen assessment and evaluation practices across the curriculum.
  • Coordinates activities needed for Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), and Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) accreditation and other specialized-program accreditations.
  • Directs and coordinates on-going efforts to improve data gathering, reporting, and the wider use of college assessment results and data tools to support improvement of academic programs and overall institutional effectiveness.
  • Develops, coordinates and maintains an annual calendar of institutional assessment activities, including workshops and other developmental activities for faculty, chairs and unit managers.
  • Collaborate with faculty and senior leadership to develop, propose, and evaluate the school’s academic offerings and work closely with faculty program directors to oversee assessment and accreditation initiatives and to develop plans and workflows aligned with each program’s learning objectives and goals.
  • Promotes internal and external communication of assessment results.
  • Recommends and participates in the development of assessment guidelines and procedures.
  • Participates in the CUNY Assessment Council.
  • Supports administrative units in their assessment activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment or designee(s).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and eight years' relevant experience required.
  • Master’s or Ph.D. Preferred.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills is a must.
  • Experience in education and learning assessment in medical or health professions education.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills and the ability to work independently and attend to multiple projects simultaneously required.
  • Outstanding oral, written and presentation skills.
  • Experience teaching at the higher education level a plus.
  • Knowledge of institutional and specialized accreditation requirements in health fields.
  • Strong ability to collect, analyze, and present data in a cohesive manner.
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365 (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) required, Tableau knowledge a plus.
  • Knowledge of statistical software a plus.
