About the Role

This full-time position (37.5 workweek) offers the opportunity to provide quality nursing care within the Colusa County Jail while also supporting the California Home Visiting Program (CHVP), providing nursing and case management services to at-risk families in their homes.

The tentative schedule consists of 12.5 hour day shifts, either Monday-Wednesday or Wednesday-Friday. All schedules include Wednesday shifts at the correctional facility. Work schedules may be adjusted to meet the department's operational needs and may occasionally include varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and/or holidays to cover absences by other staff.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver hands-on nursing care to support the physical and well-being of patients and inmates at the Colusa County Jail
  • Administer medications, monitor vital signs, treat wounds, and respond to medical emergencies
  • Coordinate care with healthcare providers
  • Maintain accurate medical records
  • Assist with admissions and discharges
  • Help ensure a safe and clean environment
  • Provide nursing and case management support for the California Home Visiting Program (CHVP), working with families in their homes to promote healthy child development and effective parenting skills
  • Serve as supplemental nursing coverage for Jail Health operations to ensure continuity of care and operational flexibility

Supervision

Receives general supervision from the Institutional Supervising Registered Nurse or other designated supervisory nursing or management staff. May provide functional or lead direction to assigned staff.

Qualifications

Institutional Licensed Vocational Nurse I

  • One year of professional experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in a public or private health care setting, or related experience
  • Experience working in a 24-hour psychiatric or adult correctional facility
