About the role

The Institutional Farms Manager oversees the control, and distribution of food products. Responsibilities include inspecting barns and facilities, supervising cleaning and sanitation, making minor repairs, ordering materials and equipment, supervising milking of cows, cleaning of equipment and cleanliness of general dairy areas, overseeing the receiving and distribution of eggs, planning and regulating breeding programs, keeping production and breeding records, and maintaining a preventive maintenance program for vehicles, equipment, and structures.

Responsibilities

  • Control and distribution of food products
  • Inspect barns and facilities; supervise cleaning and sanitation and make minor repairs as needed
  • Order materials and equipment as required
  • Supervise milking of cows, cleaning of equipment and cleanliness of general dairy area
  • Supervise the receiving and distribution of eggs and make appropriate reports
  • Plan and regulate breeding programs
  • Keep production records, breeding records and time cards
  • Plan and maintain preventive maintenance program for vehicles, equipment, and structures

Requirements

  • Knowledge of agriculture, livestock or field crop operations
  • Ability to implement plans and programs in a variety of agricultural practices
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with others
  • Perform routine veterinary work
  • Maintain records

Qualifications

  • Level I: Four years of experience in agriculture and/or food production or processing operations; or a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, food or meat science, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Level II: Five years of experience in agriculture and/or food production or processing operations; or a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, food or meat science, or a closely related field plus one year of experience in an agricultural operation and/or a food production/processing operation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Level III: Seven years of experience in agriculture and/or food production or processing operations; or a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, food or meat science, or a closely related field plus three years of experience in an agricultural operation and/or a food production/processing operation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills

  • Safe operation, maintenance, and routine repair of vehicles, equipment, and structures
  • Treatment of common livestock or field crop disease
  • Supervisory and instructional practices and procedures, including directing inmates
  • Food production and/or processing operation
