About the role

The Oregon Department of Corrections is seeking Registered Nurses to provide on-site care within secure correctional facility medical units. The role involves flexible scheduling, manageable patient loads, and the opportunity to follow the course of treatment without the pressures of billing or insurance.

Responsibilities

• Direct Patient Care: Provision of nursing care including patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, care planning, medication administration, laboratory/medical procedures, and treatment provision in accordance with ODOC policies, procedures, protocols, provider orders, and evidence-based standards of care.
• Care Coordination: Scheduling services on-site and community-based services to ensure optimal patient health outcomes.
• Communication: Providing comprehensive patient education and serving as a resource for non-medical staff.
• Advocacy: Advocating for patient care needs to ensure they are met in a timely manner.
• Documentation: Maintaining accurate, legible, and complete records of patient care.
• Administrative: Coordinating nursing care activities with other departments and assuming responsibility for unit operations in the absence of management staff.
• Supply Management: Evaluating and monitoring medical supplies to ensure appropriate availability and secure storage.

Requirements

Possess a valid Oregon Registered Professional Nurse's License at the time of appointment. Preference given to candidates with an unencumbered license. Training or experience in a specialized area of nursing may be required.
