Inspector Packer

The Inspector Packer is an entry‑level support position that facilitates plant operations by using light mobile equipment to direct material flow, performing product and process inspections, and assisting with maintenance to minimize downtime. This role is based in East Alton, IL and is fully on‑site.

Responsibilities

• Work in alignment with Wieland’s core values and abide by the 8 Golden Rules of Safety.
• Operate precise measuring equipment (width mics, calipers, gauges, MMS system) to ensure customer specifications are met.
• Measure width, gauge, and surface quality of product and record measurement results.
• Band, pack, and identify customer material for shipping.
• Maintain and operate equipment per Wieland policies and health and safety regulations; report service requests as needed.
• Collaborate with maintenance to complete tasks that minimize downtime.
• Work with team members to achieve department goals.
• Adhere to Wieland and OSHA safety procedures and job‑specific safety practices; report issues to Supervisor, Safety, or HR.
• Follow daily procedures, work instructions, control plans, and protocols from orientation and training.
• Attend meetings and refresher courses for proper equipment operation.
• Perform general laborer tasks as required.
• Maintain daily housekeeping of the work area.
• Perform routine product inspections as needed.
• Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to forklift operations.
• Adherence to health and safety regulations, including consistent use of protective gear.
• Ability to read and understand packaging and shipping documents.
• Ability to read a manual tape measure, vernier caliper, and gauges.
• Ability to interact with a computer and its components.
• Ability to navigate a pre‑programmed data recording system and troubleshoot common issues.
• Capable of sitting, standing, walking, and reaching for extended periods; occasional stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
• Dependable attendance with consistency.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lb occasionally.
• Good judgment and willingness to ask questions as needed.
• Detail‑oriented and alert at all times to ensure safety.
• Vision abilities: proximate vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
• Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• High School Diploma or equivalency.
• Metals experience preferred but not required.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Three years of manufacturing experience preferred.

Starting Pay: $28.07/hour (Bi‑weekly pay schedule)
