Inspection Technical Assistants

STV’s Pennsylvania Transportation group, based in our Douglassville, Harrisburg, and Philadelphia, PA offices, is seeking construction inspectors with experience on PennDOT and PA Turnpike highway and bridge construction projects. Field locations are in the Lehigh Valley, Northeastern PA, and Philadelphia regions of Pennsylvania. Immediate assignments are available in Carbon County, PA.

Clients include the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Districts 4, 5, 6, and 8, and the PA Turnpike Commission (PTC).

Responsibilities

• Review contractor’s procedures, materials, and work product for conformance with plans and specifications.
• Prepare written inspection reports on work in progress and completed work, including quantity calculations, and witness and document materials testing and certification processes.
• Learn and apply PennDOT highway and bridge construction specifications, contract drawings and documents, standards, materials, and work methods.
• Perform math calculations for linear, area, and volume measurements and calculate items of work in proper measurement and payment units.
• Use basic computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook) and quickly learn STV timesheet and expense reporting apps, STV online training, and client-based documentation applications.
• Assist client and/or the CM team in documenting and reviewing construction project activities, materials testing, and certifications, tracking status of operations, and providing background information and support for contractor payments and change orders.
• Communicate effectively in writing and verbally to keep projects on track and within budget, assist supervisors and managers in informing clients and stakeholders on project activities and issues, and remedy construction issues to avoid rework, change orders, or claims.
• Work safely within company, project, and OSHA safety guidelines on highway/bridge construction sites.
• Operate a personal vehicle safely along, approaching, and/or within construction zones, including detour routes.
• Work nights and weekends as required by client and project construction schedules.
• Attend training sessions and classes to obtain and maintain additional inspection and safety certifications.

Requirements

• High School Diploma (or GED). Post-secondary coursework in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle for travel to field construction sites, project offices, materials plants, and testing laboratories.
• Ability to safely traverse construction sites by vehicle and on foot.
• Willingness to pursue certifications such as ACI/PennDOT Concrete, NECEPT Asphalt, Traffic Control, Guide Rail, Stormwater Management, OSHA Construction Safety, and related areas.

Qualifications

• PennDOT TA-TCI Training Modules
• NICET Level I/Level II in Highway Construction
• NECEPT Asphalt Field Technician
• ACI Concrete Field Technician
• PennDOT/NECEPT Concrete Field Technician
• Certifications in Stormwater Management, Guiderail/Attenuator installation, Traffic Control, and OSHA/Safety are desired.

$55,267.00 - $62,803.00
