About the role

Insomniac is looking for Exterior Operations Crew members to support festival builds, signage, and shuttle operations. This position reports to the Director of Exterior Operations. Available roles include:

• Exterior Operations Site Crew/Heavy Equipment Operator: Operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, stakebeds, water trucks, dump trucks, front-end loaders, and skid steers. Forklift certification required; earth-moving equipment and/or CDL certifications and experience are a plus.
• Ext Ops Build Leads: Experienced in festival builds or comparable environments. Leads understand not just what to build, but why and how. Responsibilities include directing crew safety, coordinating with vendors (e.g., fence lines, equipment maintenance), and managing inventory for loading/unloading trucks.
• Signage Crew: Install signs around the festival perimeter to direct attendees, ranging from small signs (3’ x 3’) to large overhead truss installations or parking lot flags. Forklift certification helpful but not required.
• Signage Leads: Direct the signage crew and understand the rationale behind sign placement, including local area knowledge, patron flow, and key points of interest. Requires prior signage or similar experience.
• Shuttle Loader/Unloader: Entry-level role focused on loading and unloading attendees from buses on show days. No certifications required.
• Shuttle Leads: Manage shuttle staff, including break times, bus driver check-ins, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring smooth operations. Requires prior shuttle or logistics experience.

Requirements

• Clean motor vehicle report and valid driver’s license.
• Must be 18 or older.
• Able to walk long distances for extended periods and lift 50+ lbs.
• Clean and presentable attire (show blacks).
• Motivated with an “Everything is possible” attitude; active problem-solver with a sense of urgency.
• Heavy equipment certification (for relevant roles).
• OSHA certification (preferred).

Work Environment

• Tolerate loud noise levels and busy environments.
• Work in drastic temperature climates (e.g., heat, cold).
• Willingness to travel frequently, including holidays, evenings, and weekends to meet event deadlines.

Pay

Hourly pay ranges from $16.00 to $30.00 USD, with an expected compensation of $16.90 USD for this position. Pay is based on market location, qualifications, skills, and experience. Note: Compensation is estimated for California-based roles; similar positions outside California may differ.
