About the role

Lead MSC's Inside Sales team within the small customer segment, driving both sales and gross margin dollar growth in Metalworking and MRO product categories. This position oversees approximately $30M–$45M in revenue and 11–13 team members, executing key sales strategies and projects under the guidance of the Director of Inside Sales. The role focuses on cross-functional collaboration to achieve customer loyalty in the small business segment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage $30M to $45M in revenue responsibility within the small customer segment.
  • Lead front-line associates in the inside sales channel for the small customer segment.
  • Foster an environment that embraces change and drives innovation.
  • Ensure the inside sales channel meets established sales revenue, margin, and productivity goals.
  • Align sales portfolios with the company’s go-to-market approach to achieve targeted sales levels.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships through telephone and in-person contact.
  • Execute business plans with subject matter experts and strategic suppliers to drive market share growth.
  • Present business plans to small and large audiences across the business.
  • Generate relevant reports for MSC management as needed.
  • Propose new technology capabilities to complement Inside Sales strategies and capture market share.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other leaders on projects to drive customer loyalty and revenue targets.
  • Attract, develop, and retain talent, including hiring, coaching, corrective actions, and termination when necessary.
  • Create career development plans with strong coaching components to support team growth.
  • Execute fair, consistent, and effective coaching and performance management plans within MSC guidelines.
  • Promote MSC’s culture throughout the department and company to align with MSC’s vision and unity of purpose.
  • Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of sales experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience OR 5 years of relevant business experience.
  • Experience developing and using metrics to support sales and service performance.
  • Experience planning, managing financial goals, and reporting.
  • Expertise in developing vendor support and incentive programs to motivate sales performance.
  • Proficiency with CRM tools.
  • Excellent coaching and performance management skills.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to drive strong leadership and associate engagement plans.
  • Analytical skills to address complex issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Creativity and innovation in driving results.
  • Ability to build positive relationships within and outside the organization.
  • Effective coaching through ongoing, job-embedded interactions with direct reports.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree (BA/BS) or equivalent experience.
  • Call Center and/or Inside Sales operations experience.
  • Experience with innovative technology tools.

Other Requirements

  • A valid driver’s license may be required.
  • Up to 5% travel may be required.
  • Position may require access to International Traffic in Arms Regulations Information (“ITAR”) and/or Controlled Unclassified Information (“CUI”).

Pay

Compensation starts at $58,511–$91,946 with commission opportunities, depending on candidate location and experience. The salary range is based on comparable roles in the industry and cost of labor in respective cities. Actual compensation is determined by the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and peer pay equity.
