Inside Machinist (Marine Mechanic) (SkillBridge Intern) - 29257
About the role
This is an UNPAID internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership.
Responsibilities
- Train as an Inside Machinist (Marine Mechanic) within HII-Mission Technologies, reporting to a designated HII Supervisor, with the goal of learning the performing as an Inside Machinist at HII Mission Technologies SEMAT Hawaii, capable of independently machining, fabricating, and refurbishing shipboard components while providing technical support to USN Surface Ships at Pearl Harbor.
- Be assigned special projects as needed.
Requirements
- Active-Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active-duty service.
- Applications accepted within final 12-months of active-duty US military service.
- Education and Experience dependent on Program of Instruction.
- Must be able to obtain SECRET security clearance.
- 4 – 6 years of related experience, to include specific systems expertise.
- Prefer technical/professional certifications.
- Experience operating a lathe required.
- Ability to read ship drawings, technical documents, and manuals.
- Machine, fabricate, and refurbish shipboard components using templates and technical documentation.
- Proficient with mechanical equipment and tools for ship repairs.
- Must provide own hand tools per trade specialty.
