About the role
The Inside Sales & Yard Associate supports customer sales at the counter and assists with yard and warehouse operations, playing a crucial role in delivering exceptional customer service and efficient handling of lumber and building materials.
Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service to walk-in customers, contractors, and vendors
- Aid customers with product selection and recommend appropriate building materials
- Create accurate sales tickets and enter orders into the system
- Handle phone and email inquiries and follow up on customer needs
- Cook up deliveries and customer pickups
- Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely (training/certification required)
- Maintain organization, cleanliness, and safety of the yard and warehouse
- Absorb inventory movement, stocking, and cycle counts
- Collaborate with sales and operations teams to ensure efficient service
- Take initiative to support daily business needs
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations
- Assist in other areas of the business as needed
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1–3+ years of experience in sales, retail, warehouse, or related field
- Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy materials (50+ lbs; team lift when needed)
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn internal systems
- To work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable, punctual, and dependable
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in lumber, building materials, or construction industry
- Forklift experience or willingness to become certified
- Prior experience in a yard, warehouse, or distribution environment
