About the role

Performs advanced inpatient coding quality reviews and auditing activities, including peer reviews, CDI reconciliation, code and DRG validation, query compliance assessment, and coding staff support, while ensuring adherence to coding guidelines, data quality standards, and organizational policies. The position also serves as a mentor and subject matter expert by providing training, onboarding support, performance feedback, workflow improvement recommendations, and educational resources to enhance coding accuracy, efficiency, and staff development.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced inpatient coding quality reviews and auditing activities
  • Conduct peer reviews and CDI reconciliation
  • Validate codes and DRG assignments
  • Assess query compliance
  • Support coding staff
  • Provide training, onboarding support, and performance feedback
  • Recommend workflow improvements
  • Develop and provide educational resources to enhance coding accuracy and efficiency

Requirements

  • RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC certification
  • High School diploma or GED
  • 4+ years of Hospital/facility Inpatient Coding experience, including:
    • Principal Diagnosis selection
    • DRG Assignment
    • Secondary diagnosis coding
    • Procedure coding using ICD 10-PCS
    • Coding Inpatient Accounts with DRG assignment from Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic, Orthopedic, and General/Oncology Surgery
    • Querying physicians for clarification
  • At least 1 year of Inpatient Hospital-based coding Auditing/DRG Validation experience, including:
    • Validation of principal diagnosis and principal procedure
    • Accuracy/quality check review of diagnostic and PCS procedure codes
    • Validation of account abstraction
  • Extensive IP Coding acute care and trauma coding experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Academic Medical Center and Trauma Center

Schedule

  • Length of assignment: 13 weeks
  • During training: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM CST, Monday-Friday
  • After training: 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM CST, Monday-Friday
