Job Requirements

Inpatient Coder - Remote
Monday - Friday 6AM-6PM ET (40 hours/week)

Responsibilities

• Analyzes inpatient cases, identifies and assigns ICD-10 diagnostic and PCS procedural codes for the purpose of reimbursement, research and compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of coding nomenclature to ensure accurate APR-DRG/SOI/ROM and POA assignment.
• Maintains accuracy and completeness of coding and abstracting records within established timeframes.
• Communicates with various departments within the hospital regarding billing and registration issues.
• Works collaboratively with CDI, understands PPC’s/MHAC’s/PQI’s and their impact, and communicates with the Auditing team to discuss audit findings.
• Ensures compliance with AHIMA standards of ethical coding and coding compliance guidelines.
• Supports and complies with University of Maryland Medical System mission, vision, values statement, goals and objectives and policies.
• Performs other duties or projects as assigned by the manager.

Requirements

• Basic knowledge of inpatient coding.
• One of the following certifications required: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC).
• At least two years of experience in outpatient coding with a CCS certification (or obtain within one year).
• At least one year of inpatient ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS coding and abstracting experience in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Formal ICD-10-CM and CPT training required.
• Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
