Job Summary

Enjoin is seeking an experienced Inpatient Clinical Coder to join our growing remote team. In this role, you'll accurately assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for complex inpatient medical records while ensuring documentation fully reflects the patient's severity of illness, risk of mortality, quality outcomes, and appropriate reimbursement.

What You'll Do

  • Review complex inpatient medical records and accurately assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS diagnosis and procedure codes
  • Ensure accurate MS-DRG and APR-DRG assignment by applying Official Coding Guidelines and Coding Clinic guidance
  • Capture Present on Admission (POA) indicators and identify secondary diagnoses that impact Severity of Illness (SOI), Risk of Mortality (ROM), Hospital Acquired Conditions (HACs), HCCs, Social Determinants of Health (SDOH), quality measures, and reimbursement
  • Identify qualifying procedures and technologies, including New Technology Add-On Payments (NTAP), to ensure complete reimbursement
  • Validate discharge disposition documentation for coding accuracy
  • Maintain exceptional coding quality while meeting productivity expectations
  • Stay current on ICD-10 updates, Coding Clinic publications, Official Coding Guidelines, payer requirements, and industry best practices
  • Uphold AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding and maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism
  • Collaborate effectively with internal coding leadership and quality review teams

Qualifications

  • AHIMA credential (CCS, RHIA, or RHIT)
  • Minimum 3 years of recent acute inpatient hospital coding experience
  • Experience coding at a large acute care hospital
  • Proficiency assigning ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes
  • Strong understanding of:
    • MS-DRGs
    • APR-DRGs
    • POA indicators
    • Official Coding Guidelines
    • Coding Clinic
  • Experience using electronic medical records such as Epic, Cerner, Meditech, or similar
  • Experience with 3M, TruCode, or comparable encoder software
  • Excellent analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment

Preferred

  • Recent Level I Trauma Center coding experience
  • Academic Medical Center coding experience
  • Experience capturing: NTAP opportunities, HCCs, SOI/ROM, SDOH, quality outcome diagnoses

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Fully remote, full-time position (40 hours per week)
  • Monday through Friday during regular business hours
