About the Role
Design innovative batteries to achieve functional and dysfunctional performance, ensuring desired battery pack performance with minimum safety standards in alignment with agreed planning and cross-functional collaboration. Assess disruptive cell electrochemistry technologies for automotive applications from technical performance perspectives. Lead relationships with external partners (academics, startups, cell manufacturers, material providers) and coordinate human resources with advanced and core internal teams. Develop and disseminate mid- and long-term roadmaps for cell electrochemistry technologies and designs.
Responsibilities
- Master and disseminate the process of functional and dysfunctional battery design to achieve unprecedented performance in horsepower and energy.
- Lead projects involving multiple teams and skills to meet Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) and milestones according to project planning.
- Capitalize and disseminate methods and models within Product Development Team (PDT) communities.
- Summarize performance and constraint balance sheets at the project level for addressed battery packs.
- Evaluate thermo-electric performance of battery packs (horsepower, energy addressable under thermal environment).
- Assess battery pack cost and performance in stationary environments.
- Conduct Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) for battery packs.
- Exchange and validate results with technical teams, expertise networks, and project stakeholders.
- Capitalize tools, models, and methods with partner teams.
- Produce technical assessments (TRL) and project milestones.
- Synthesize functional and dysfunctional designs for battery packs.
- Summarize battery pack performance (horsepower and energy addressing).
- Develop models and control laws to assess performance.
- Provide TRL assessments including LCA and cost analysis.
- Create sets of requirements for external cell makers.
- Prepare activity reports and upgrade plans for external partnerships and internal facilities.
- Use battery pack system engineering to build functional and dysfunctional analyses.
- Facilitate design synthesis within working teams through cross-functional collaboration.
- Manage relationships with partners and gather information from multiple sources.
- Process TRL gates (including LCA and cost) and deliver on time.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering or Electrochemistry Engineering.
- Minimum 8 years of working experience in the battery energy storage area.
- Knowledge in battery pack design, electrochemistry, thermal management, battery cell, and electrical energy storage.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work in cross-functional and multicultural team environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Materials Engineering or Electrochemistry.
- Proven experience in electrochemistry.
- Experience with current and/or advanced cell technologies.
- Experience providing technical guidance and direction during supplier technical reviews.
- Proven experience in team leadership or project management.
