This position is part of the Federal Work-Study (FWS) program. Students not awarded FWS may request to be added to the FWS Waiting List by emailing workstudy@csusb.edu. Note that program funding is limited and placement on the waiting list does not guarantee an award.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the current award year
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress standards
  • Be enrolled in at least half-time (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate) per semester
  • Have a federal need of at least $2,000
  • Submit all requested financial aid documentation from your To-Do-List by the due date
  • Have an official award notification from the Financial Aid Office
  • Be a U.S. citizen, eligible non-citizen, or permanent resident

About the Role

At ICEC, ISA tutors support adult learners as they work toward GED, high school equivalency, English as a Second Language (ESL), citizenship, and basic adult education goals. The tutor provides encouragement, skill practice, and academic support in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies, helping students build confidence and move toward college, careers, and personal advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Tutor adult learners in GED/high school equivalency subjects
  • Support ESL, citizenship, and basic adult education students
  • Provide one-on-one or small-group academic support under instructor guidance
  • Help students stay engaged, practice skills, and work toward learning goals
  • Assist with classroom preparation, follow program procedures, and complete required documentation

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position
  • Admission or registration as a CSU student

Required Qualifications

  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative
  • Enrolled in at least half-time units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Possess a Social Security Card for payroll purposes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Maintain a 2.5 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative
  • Experience working with individual students or small groups to reinforce instruction or practice skills determined by the intervention team
  • Ability to adapt materials and activities to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Support students in using technology, manipulatives, and other educational tools
  • Manage and supervise small groups and individual students while servicing them
  • Work collaboratively with the intervention team for training, student progress monitoring, and lesson plans
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with school policies and legal requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds
  • Strong communication, patience, and organizational skills
  • Ability to follow directions, work as part of a team, and adapt to changing needs
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Pay

Anticipated hiring range: $18.00 - $23.84 per hour. The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors.

Schedule

Part-time, temporary, seasonal. Hours to be determined, at least partially aligned with the school day, including After School Program, with occasional additional time for meetings and training.

Conditions of Employment

  • Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) may be required for student employment purposes
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License may be required; employees will be enrolled in the DMV Government Employer Pull Notice Program
  • Must verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire
  • Must reside in the State of California upon date of hire
  • Applicants may be required to disclose any final administrative or judicial decisions regarding sexual harassment within the last 7 years
  • Applicants reaching the final stages of the process must sign a release form authorizing the release of information by current/former employers concerning any substantiated allegations of misconduct
