Injection Molding Engineer, Lead
Position Summary
Responsible for special projects and related engineering assistance in support of Injection Molding and Automated manufacturing operations. Leads design reviews, development and procurement of molding/automation equipment and tooling. Provides direction and development other mold and automation engineers. Some travel may be required.
Primary Responsibilities
- Identify and pursue potential enhancements in new or existing molding/automation workcells that would result in cost savings, quality, safety, and ergonomic improvements.
- Troubleshoot quality and processing concerns on new tooling and equipment, then implement correction action.
- Reviewing and approving new mold tooling designs with suppliers and providing specifications to suppliers to meet our equipment and manufacturing requirements.
- Run off new tooling and equipment at supplier location, approving for acceptance and shipping to Cooper.
- Inspect and verify incoming tooling and equipment to ensure they meet original build specifications.
- Supports APQP development for new products, completing Claus and Enterproj tasks as assigned by programs. Including development of PFMEA’s, Process Flows and BTO Work Instructions.
- Supports the Quality and Environmental Management Systems.
- Leads validation trials, feasibility studies, design tests for performance of processes and materials.
- Develops specifications, new tools, processes and training procedures.
- Utilizes disciplined and proven problem-solving techniques to determine root cause analysis for equipment downtime and customer complaints and develops permanent corrective actions.
- Champions scrap reduction activities in assigned area of responsibility. Supports, contributes, and demonstrates lean manufacturing principles in work area.
- Continuously works toward achieving goals and measurables of the facility.
- Complies with policies, procedures, and facility standards in ISO14001, ISO45001, IATF 16949, including safety and environmental guidelines.
Education And Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering discipline with minimum 4 years directly related experience in an injection molding manufacturing facility or substantial injection molding experience with proven capabilities.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Automated work cell environment and mold design review and approvals.
- Above average mechanical aptitude.
- MS Office Proficient.
- CAD software experience (AutoCAD, Solidworks).
- Ability to analyze equipment and processes in an industrial environment.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel, as necessary.
Work Environment/Work Conditions
Professional Office Environment. Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on manufacturing floor. Travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations when required. Equipment used requires proper training on the potential for and avoidance of injury.
