Injection Mold Machine Operator - 2nd Shift

Position Summary

Injection Mold Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring injection molding machines to ensure efficient and safe production. Duties include inspecting parts to specifications, making adjustments or tool changes as needed, and resolving minor component or quality issues to maintain consistent product standards.

Core Functions

  • Operates machines to ensure continuous production at a constant rate of the correct product at high quality levels with minimal wasted time and materials throughout the entire shift
  • Performs basic adjustments to ensure safe and efficient production of products
  • Performs in-process inspections of parts throughout the manufacturing run and ensures they meet visual standards of acceptance
  • Produces parts in the proper quantity as identified by the production schedule
  • Performs necessary pre-operation activities to ensure proper equipment startup
  • Adjusts machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications and in a timely fashion
  • Performs operational procedures to ensure the quality of the product packaged
  • Follows and commits to meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for safety, quality, production, efficiency, and service requirements
  • Reports material utilization in the production report
  • Ensures daily production report data is reported correctly and up to date
  • Recognizes defective materials for color, surface blemishes, finish, and dimensions
  • Identifies the proper tooling required for pending production
  • Inspects the condition of molds and component parts for damage and wear
  • Inspects machine, conveyer and tools in department and notifies Lead that a maintenance repair form is needed, or replacement tools are required
  • Keeps work cell, department, and fire-doors clear of trash and other obstructions that could hinder department performance/safety
  • Maintains condition of work area to meet 5-S standards
  • Communicates with team members and supports teams
  • Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to assist whenever and in whatever capacity needed to ensure continuous production at a constant rate of the correct product at high quality levels with minimal wasted time and materials throughout the entire shift

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is required
  • Prior experience operating manufacturing, packaging, and process control equipment required
  • Thermoform, Injection Mold, Douglas, ARPAC, ZED, or related machine operator experience preferred

Supervisor Responsibilities

  • Individual Contributor: working team member with no oversight of others and no management responsibilities

Physical Requirements

  • Subject to Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Physical Activities: climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, crawling, and repetitive motions
  • Visual Acuity: close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes
  • Working Conditions: subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, including heat, noise, vibration, and hazards from a production-based environment
