About the Role
The primary responsibilities of this position will be to perform patient registration procedures, pre-authorizations for treatment, and patient scheduling for Infusion.
- Interview patients for all pertinent account information.
- Verify insurance coverage by phone and obtain pre-certification/authorization.
- Assign I-plans accurately and research Patient Visit History to comply with the Medicare 72-hour rule.
- Pre-certify patients and obtain proper authorization for treatment and approval codes from the insurance carrier for patients insured by an MCO.
- Coordinate patient information with physician offices and ancillary departments.
- Check for physician orders and attach them to patient medical records to ensure appropriate tests are administered.
- Activate all pre-registered patients that have reported for services.
- Secure all signatures necessary for treatments, release of medical information, assignment of insurance benefits, and payment of services from legally responsible parties.
- Explain policies regarding services, charges, insurance billing, and payment of account.
- Schedule patient visits for outpatient infusion and Radiation Therapy, transitioning between scheduling and registration based on department volume and needs.
- Schedule patient/physician consults and daily treatment visits using department EMR, Meditech EMR, and/or paper schedule.
- Obtain all required patient information and medical history data prior to appointments.
- Conduct department phone communication.
- File patient records in appropriate locations.
- Assist in other areas of the cancer center as needed.
- May include direct supervision of students at the discretion of the area supervisor.
Requirements
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer, or Clinical-related science is preferred.
- Strong communication skills—clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.
- Customer orientation—establishes and maintains long-term customer relationships, building trust and respect by consistently meeting and exceeding expectations.
- Interpersonal skills—able to work effectively with other employees, patients, and external parties.
- PC skills—must have an understanding of MS Word applications and demonstrate proficiency in PC applications as required for the position.
- Policies & Procedures—demonstrates knowledge and understanding of organizational policies, procedures, and systems.
- Basic skills—able to perform basic mathematical calculations, balance and reconcile figures, punctuate properly, spell correctly, and transcribe accurately.
- Ability to multi-task and excellent time management skills.
