About the role

The IT Merchandise Infrastructure Engineer at Costco Wholesale is responsible for monitoring, supporting, and maintaining the overall Costco Merchandising On-Premise application non-prod and production ecosystems. This role ensures the governance, security, and compliance of the application platforms and aligns them with Costco policies, operational standards, regulations, and industry frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Implements practices, processes, and procedures consistent with Costco's information security policy and IT standards.
  • Automates, documents, shares, educates, delegates, and improves processes.
  • Automates deployment of applications.
  • Enhances automation of systems and platforms and identifies opportunities for streamlining and continuous process improvement.
  • Buils infrastructure automation utilizing tools such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet, SaltStack, etc.
  • Evaluates vendor hardware recommendations for operations reliability.
  • Designs and implements solutions to meet business needs while developing and enforcing system and security standards.
  • Collaborates with Architects to plan, design, implement, and improve new capabilities, enhancements, solutions, and/or platforms.
  • Contributes, interprets, and communicates enterprise, technical, project, and operational strategies to the team.
  • Develops team vision to drive new capabilities against a published roadmap, in conjunction with management.
  • Ensures that proposed and existing systems are aligned with organizational standards, goals, and objectives.
  • Works with teams, management, and stakeholders to conceptualize, design, build, test, and release products.
  • Analyzes user and project requirements for solutions.
  • Identifies and resolves problems, often anticipating issues before they occur or before they grow; develops and evaluates options and implements solutions in accordance with incident and problem management services, policies, procedures, and SLA’s.
  • Configures, implements, customizes, and tests software/hardware; duplicates and documents software/hardware defects; and reviews and interprets error logs and source codes to diagnose errors.
  • Creates and maintains technical design documentation and identifies which applications are impacted by the solution and associated interfaces.
  • Drives governance through designing, developing, implementing, supporting, and documenting enterprise policies, standards, guidelines, monitoring services, solutions, configurations, and procedures.
  • Researches, analyzes, and recommends changes required for system growth by utilizing industry standard monitoring and research tools.
  • Manages/Coordinates virtual and physical servers including: server provisioning, upgrading, installing, monitoring, maintaining, and performance optimization.
  • Creates queries, programs, scripts, and reports supporting and adhering to change control policies that help to define and develop best practices.
  • Evaluates system specifications, input and out processes, and working parameters for hardware and software compatibility.
  • Performs shell and kernel-level programming and system-specific requirements.
  • Assists in other areas of the department and company as necessary.

Requirements

  • 3+ years’ experience with managing and patching Windows servers.
  • 3+ years’ experience with managing and patching Linux servers.
  • 3+ years’ experience supporting operations systems in a large enterprise environment.
  • Knowledge in server technologies, including server hardware, storage, backup solutions, data, and security.
  • Experience with Puppet configuration management.
  • Experience managing SQL/Oracle servers including backup and recovery.
  • Experience with Configuring and upgrading JBOSS servers.
  • Experience with DynaTrace and/or other monitoring tools.
  • Proficiency with scripting languages such as Powershell, Python, JavaScript, etc.
  • Understanding middleware technologies and messaging systems.
  • Ability to operate independently with a high-threshold for dealing with uncertainty, while simultaneously collaborating with various functional and technical teams.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills and the ability to logically think through problem situations and design solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to present complex ideas and designs to a variety of technical or non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel within the United States and Canada.
  • Able to support off-hours work as required, including weekends, holidays and 24x7 on-call support for Production and Non-Prod environments and services.

Qualifications

  • Functional knowledge of Costco IT systems and procedures, with the ability to support, install and remove, configure, and service IT environments and computer equipment.
  • Familiarity with Costco’s core business environment related to merchandising, warehouse operations, and company philosophies.
  • Experience with configuring and supporting LabVantage software products.
  • Experience with configuring and supporting ePlum software products.
  • Familiarity with Java, C#, Angular or React.
  • Experience with peripheral installation, configuration, customization and triage.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.

Pay

Pay ranges from $85,000 - $190,000, with bonus and restricted stock unit (RSU) eligibility.

Schedule

Full-time position with potential for remote work.
