INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ASSOCIATE
Under the general supervision of the Information Technology Supervisor II, the Information Technology Associate (ITA) serves as the Security Operations Associate. The ITA assists in the implementation, administration, configuration, operation, and maintenance of security technologies and processes. The incumbent helps monitor and protect technology systems and networks, identifies potential risks, and supports routine security tasks necessary for maintaining an effective security posture. Work is performed in alignment with Department of Developmental Services (DDS) policies and Statewide standards.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the implementation, administration, configuration, operation, and maintenance of security technologies and processes.
- Monitor and protect technology systems and networks; identify potential risks.
- Support routine security tasks to maintain an effective security posture.
- Monitor security tools, analyze alerts or logs, and perform initial triage of security incidents.
- Assist with basic forensic data collection under supervision.
- Support vulnerability management, asset tracking, and configuration/access-control hygiene.
- Contribute to risk and compliance documentation and security runbook development.
- Coordinate security-related projects and maintain accurate asset inventories.
- Support physical security tasks such as badge administration.
- Provide 24/7 on-call and weekend support as required.
- Occasional travel for business-related activities.
Requirements
- Lawful authorization to work in the United States; the Department does not sponsor employment visas for this position.
- Residency in the State of California at the time of appointment (per California Government Code requirements).
- Hybrid work arrangement (in-office/telework); may be required to report to the office or any designated location at any time.
- Extended use of computer systems and related technology.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications stated in the Classification Specification. The following knowledge and abilities are desirable:
- Knowledge of:
- Core security operations tools and processes, including monitoring and triaging alerts within platforms such as Cortex XDR, Microsoft SIEM/Sentinel, Proofpoint, and ServiceNow.
- Vulnerability management and tools like Tenable One.
- Asset tracking to support security controls and basic configuration/access-control hygiene.
- Cloud environments such as AWS and support for forensic data collection.
- Risk and compliance documentation and security runbook development.
- Project coordination, maintaining accurate asset inventories, and physical security tasks (e.g., badge administration).
- Ability to:
- Understand core security operations, including monitoring alerts, performing initial incident triage, and supporting vulnerability/configuration management.
- Assist with documentation and project coordination tasks.
- Conduct basic forensic data collection under guidance.
- Contribute to process improvements.
Special Requirements
The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must:
- Be typed in 12-point Arial font, single-spaced, with one-inch margins.
- Be no more than two pages in length.
- Describe your experience supporting Security Operations activities, including:
- Monitoring security tools and analyzing alerts/logs.
- Performing initial triage of security incidents.
- Assisting with basic forensic data collection under supervision.
- Specific tools or methods used, your role in incident handling, and how your work contributed to improving security processes.

Working Conditions
- Open-office environment with partitioned workspaces.
- Effective July 1, 2025, State employees are subject to a 3% salary reduction in exchange for 5 hours per month of Personal Leave.
- Availability for 24/7 on-call and weekend support as required.
- Occasional travel for business-related activities.
- Commute expenses to the reporting location are the responsibility of the selected candidate.

- $5,930.00 - $7,947.00 (C)
- $6,521.00 - $8,740.00 (D)
- New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Department Information
The California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) provides services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities, including intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism, and related conditions. Services are delivered through state-operated developmental centers, community facilities, and contracts with 21 nonprofit regional centers.
