Information Systems Security Officer-ISSO (Cybersecurity Technical Staff 3)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced information technology professional to join our team as a Core Network Alternate Information Systems Security Officer for LANL's Level 2 network. The Level 2 ISSO Team plans, coordinates, and assists with security compliance and accreditation related to enterprise networks and IT systems.

Responsibilities

• Serve as an Alternate ISSO for the Level 2 Information System Security Plan (L2 ISSP), which includes LANL's classified and unclassified network and infrastructure services.
• Independently lead work on unusually significant or complex issues, providing guidance and direction as appropriate to other cyber security personnel.
• Develop advanced concepts, techniques, and standards.
• Coordinate among LANL's IT stakeholders, IT management, and federal oversight to process compliant lab-wide IT initiatives.
• Ensure systems meet cybersecurity, privacy, and other compliance requirements established by the LANL Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), LANL ISSM, National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Department of Energy (DOE) Orders and Manuals, and other federal regulations.
• Report on formal events such as disaster response/recovery exercises, after-action incident response documentation, inspections, and audit findings.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience working within NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF).
• Advanced knowledge and experience with information security compliance and accreditation activities for large and diverse information systems.
• Demonstrated technical knowledge and expertise in two or more of the following disciplines: cyber security, information security, information assurance, or computer science.
• Advanced technical knowledge of classic and contemporary cyber threats and vulnerabilities, including experience with common tools and methods used for vulnerability assessment, detection, and mitigation.
• Advanced knowledge of distributed systems, including system architectures, computer networks, and software.
• Experience with network logging and log aggregation tools such as Splunk.
• Ability to communicate complex technical issues with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience composing technical documentation, information system security plans, and associated accreditation and compliance documentation.

Qualifications

Position requires a bachelor's degree (master's preferred) in a technical field and a minimum of 8 years' related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (MS + 5 years; AS + 12 years; No degree + 16 years).

Skills

• Advanced knowledge of wireless technologies and their various applications.
• Technical knowledge of FedRAMP cloud implementation and accreditation.
• Experience with cyber audits and assessments.
• Experience with network logging and log consolidation tools such as Splunk.
• Current experience as an ISSO in a DOE/NNSA or other U.S. government facility.
• CISSP or other professional cybersecurity certification.
• Experience working in a classified computing environment.
• Active Q clearance.

Schedule

This position is primarily telework, defined as working from offsite but within a 2-hour ground commute of Los Alamos, NM. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change with appropriate notice.

Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. The position commitment for this role is 1 year or 2 years.

Pay

While the posted salary range for this position is broad, it is highly unusual for selected applicants to be hired at the top end of the range. More common for selected candidates is to grow into the full salary band over time.

Additional Details

This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires U.S. citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

New-employment drug test is required. The Laboratory maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
