Part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position working 19.5 hours per week. Schedule: Monday–Friday (evenings), 9 am–5 pm, and Saturdays. Pay rate: $23.29 per hour.
About the role
As a part-time Information Assistant, you perform various duties that maintain library technical support and user services. You will work closely with other library staff and be supervised by the Library Director. Each day you will utilize your attention to detail and interpersonal skills to support library operations and assist patrons.
Responsibilities
- Sort and place library items in their proper places.
- Locate library materials in all formats.
- Assist in the creation, routing, revision, and approval of various online documents.
- Provide instruction on research and the use of library equipment.
- Issue library cards and maintain library equipment in proper working order.
- Contribute to the safety and security of the library patrons, staff, and facilities through awareness, communication, and discernment.
- Open and close the library as scheduled.
- Perform circulation tasks and process new materials.
- Conduct community outreach, including some offsite work, as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Library Director.
Requirements
- Proven knowledge of computers and their uses in the library environment (Windows; Microsoft Office; G-Suite; Internet).
- Good organizational skills, strong customer service skills, and ability to work as a team player with creativity and initiative.
- Ability to serve a diverse community with tact, confidence, and enthusiasm.
- Ability to communicate effectively with other staff.
- Ability to troubleshoot library equipment.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment independently and with supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Portuguese.
- Master of Library Science (MLS) / Master of Library Information Science (MLIS), currently enrolled in an MLS/MLIS program, or intending to take MLS/MLIS classes within one year after hiring, or equivalent experience.
Physical Demands & Working Environment
This position requires regular interaction with members of the public and City staff. Employees must demonstrate professionalism, patience, and the ability to manage a high volume of resident requests in a fast-paced customer service environment.
- Must be able to navigate the work area independently.
- Must be able to reach materials at various angles and locations.
