About the Role
The Advance Practice Provider (APP) works collaboratively with a supervising physician to provide direct clinical care for patients presenting to assigned ambulatory clinic within Denver Public Health. The APP works in close communication with the unit's multidisciplinary team which includes social work, care management, medical assistants, nursing, research, pharmacy and others to help coordinate comprehensive care for their patients. This position may assist in the educational training of future providers and students.
Responsibilities
- Delivers superior patient care and encourages increased patient understanding and involvement in care.
- Determines and assesses the health status of patients by reviewing records, taking comprehensive medical histories, and performing physical examinations.
- Makes decisions regarding treatment changes and refers patient to specialized services as needed.
- Orders and administers appropriate medications within the limits of the appropriate statutory limitations.
- Completes required documentation legibly, thoroughly, and in a timely manner. Prepares and maintains complete and accurate charts, case files, and records.
- Participates in clinical education of healthcare students as seen fit by the supervising medical staff.
- May be assigned to perform lead work and/or involvement in clinical coordination, health station management or responsibility for special projects which may encompass protocol development, management planning, scheduling and other administrative tasks as necessary to support the practice environment.
- Attends and participates in administrative staff, program, and Department meetings.
- Utilizes the principles and practices of effective communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programs or policies.
- Follows established departmental policies and procedures and adheres to any quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Conducts clinical activities as defined in the privileging documents for this provider.
Requirements
- Master's Degree Required
- Work Experience: 1-3 years related clinical experience preferred
- Licenses: BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required and NP-Nurse Practitioner - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required and NP-Nurse Practitioner - AANPCB - American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board Required or PA-Physician Assistant - State Medical Board Required and PAC-Certified Physician Assistant - NCCPA - National Commission for Certifying Agencies Required
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques.
- Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment.
- Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Ability to prepare accurate documentation and reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required. EPIC experience preferred.
