Core Functions
- Covers surveillance for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs)
- Detects and records HAIs systematically and on a current basis
- Analyzes HAIs and prepares reports for the Infection Control Committee
- Makes recommendations when problems are identified
- Interacts with physicians, nurses, department managers, supervisors, and other staff members as a consultant
- Enters data into computer systems, prepares reports, conducts analytical studies, and summarizes surveillance data
- Initiates epidemiological investigations of significant clusters of infections and single cases of unusual infection
- Aids in continuing infection control education and inservice programs for departments
- Reviews and assists with evaluations of hospital policies, procedures, and guidelines related to infection control
- Aids in writing and revising infection control policies and procedures
- Makes recommendations regarding construction, renovation, environmental rounds, and ensures compliance with national and/or professional standards
Minimum Qualifications
- Current RN license with BSN preferred
- Masters in Public Health (MPH) preferred
- Certified medical technologist preferred
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare-related field preferred
- Two years of clinical experience in a hospital setting or disease surveillance experience in a public health setting
- Must have an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and sign an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit at the time of hire
Preferred Qualifications
- Association for Practitioners in Infection Control (APIC) training course or equivalent
- Computer skills, research, and basic statistical knowledge
