About the role

United Way Miami is hiring an Infant Toddler Teacher to join our team. This role provides a safe and nurturing environment for children aged 0-3 years, focusing on their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development.

Responsibilities

• Provide experiences that build on children’s prior experiences by drawing on their curiosity and encouraging them to ask questions, theories, and hypotheses.
• Encourage and model appropriate behavior and expectations.
• Teach positive discipline techniques.
• Ask follow-up questions to deepen children's understanding.
• Design and implement a reflective curriculum, materials, activities, and environments daily that support children’s learning.
• Observe, document, and gather data on each child’s health, behavior, growth, and development.
• Use observations to plan and respond to individual and group needs.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect towards diverse backgrounds.
• Create a thoughtful classroom environment to optimize small and large group interactions, social learning, and constructive play.
• Analyze and interpret the learning process and share it with colleagues and children.
• Follow a reflective planning cycle involving observation, reflection, discussion, and implementation.
• Engage parents in ongoing communication about their child’s development screenings and assessments.
• Implement the Brazelton Touchpoints guiding principles and assumptions.
• Use data to individualize instruction and create action plans if needed.
• Communicate with families about their child’s developmental screenings and assessments and provide activities to enhance their child’s development.
• Review overall summary scores, subscales, and individual items from screenings and assessments.
• Take the lead in guiding the team in developing classroom goals and action plans.
• Ensure daily responsibilities are complete and jobs are shared.
• Implement reflective supervision with the teaching team.
• Supervise children, following all safety and health rules and keeping the environment safe, organized, and accessible.
• Complete necessary documentation to report incidents and accidents.
• Stay updated on the latest trends and research in the early childhood field and continue professional growth.
• Attend all required meetings and training and be punctual.
• Protect the confidentiality of children and no information about a child or family should be shared with other staff members.
• Establish and maintain a cooperative relationship with colleagues and maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in classroom and Center events and be open to communicating and collaborating at all times.
• Make decisions with authority but inform the Director when necessary.
• Respond immediately and appropriately to multiple situations or emergencies and communicate incidents/accidents with supervisor(s), families, and complete proper documentation.
• Maintain mental and physical alertness and an appropriate energy level to perform essential job requirements.

Qualifications

• A High School Diploma is required.
• The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) 45-hour child care training requirement must be completed within the first year of employment, along with 15 in-service training hours annually.
• A CDA with a focus on Infant/Toddler is required.
• Candidates who do not currently possess a CDA may be considered for employment as a Substitute Teacher at an hourly rate of $16.50 on a temporary basis while working toward obtaining their CDA.
• The CDA must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
• Bilingual candidates are preferred.
• One year of experience working with young children in an early childhood education setting is preferred.
• Knowledge of modern web browsers, beginning Word, and beginning Outlook is required.
