Infant Toddler Teacher-Downtown Miami Area (Part Time-$16.13 p/hr)

Location: Lotus Village Center, 217 NW 15 Street, Miami, FL 33136 (Downtown Miami Area). Focus on providing comprehensive high-quality early care and education to low-income families in the Miami Gardens area.

About the role

United Way Miami is seeking an Infant Toddler Teacher to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children 0 to 36 months that encourages their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. The ideal candidate understands concepts around Visible Thinking, Multiple Intelligences, Dual Language, Inclusion, Early Literacy strategies, and Reflective Supervision.

Responsibilities

• Provide experiences that build on children’s prior experiences by drawing on their curiosity and encouraging them to develop their own questions, theories, and hypotheses.
• Encourage and model appropriate behavior and expectations; practice positive discipline techniques.
• Capitalize on opportunities to help children build vocabulary by asking follow-up questions for deeper understanding.
• Design and implement a reflective curriculum, materials, activities, and environments daily in collaboration with the Director EHS-CCP Site and Infant Toddler Specialist.
• Observe, document, and gather data on each child’s health, behavior, growth, and development; use observations to plan and respond to individual and group needs.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect toward diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
• Design a thoughtful classroom environment to optimize small and large group interactions, social learning, and constructive play.
• Analyze and interpret the learning process and share insights with colleagues and children.
• Follow a reflective planning cycle: observe and reflect, document and reflect, discuss and plan, implement and reflect.
• Acknowledge and respond to parents and visitors in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
• Communicate daily with families, including conferences, events, and meetings; share resources and developmental updates.
• Schedule, develop plans, and conduct home visits in collaboration with Family Engagement Staff.
• Use data to individualize instruction and create action plans; engage parents in ongoing communication about developmental screenings and assessments.
• Review overall summary scores, subscales, and individual items from screenings and assessments.
• Collaborate with co-teachers to develop classroom goals and experience plans; ensure daily responsibilities are shared and completed.
• Implement reflective supervision with the teaching team; mentor new teachers in effective strategies.
• Supervise children following all safety and health rules; maintain awareness of the number of children in the group at all times.
• Keep the environment safe, organized, and accessible; complete documentation for incidents and accidents.
• Stay abreast of trends and research in early childhood education; attend required meetings and trainings.
• Protect the confidentiality of children and families; maintain professionalism in all interactions.
• Establish cooperative and respectful relationships with team members; participate in classroom and center events.
• Inform the Site Director when addressing significant injuries, parent concerns, neglect/abuse complaints, or unusual incidents.

Requirements

• High School Diploma and 45 DCF hours/15 in-service hours per year.
• CDA with a focus on Infant/Toddler or commitment to complete it during the first year of employment.
• 18 credits in Early Childcare Education (CDA credential equivalency counts as 9 credits).
• Currently enrolled in a degree program for Early Childcare Education.
• One year of experience working with young children in an early childhood education setting preferred.
• Bilingual preferred.
• Knowledge of modern web browsers, beginning Word, and beginning Outlook.
• Flexibility and understanding of Visible Thinking, Multiple Intelligences, Dual Language, Inclusion, Early Literacy strategies, and Reflective Supervision.

Skills

• Full range of motion and ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to supervise and interact with children outdoors.
