Infant Toddler Assistant Teacher

About the role

The Infant Toddler Assistant Teacher will contribute to the vision, mission, and values of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation by caring for children ages six weeks to four years old, promoting their social, physical, and intellectual growth with standards of excellence. We follow a “Child First” philosophy, meaning all decisions and actions are made with the child’s best interests in mind, ensuring each child has a sense of belonging, safety, and purpose.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with teachers and administration to maintain a structured environment with planned activities both in the classroom and outside
• Promote positive social behaviors in the classroom
• Assist teachers in assimilating arriving children by greeting them, helping them remove outerwear, and selecting activities of interest
• Assist with children’s basic needs: feeding, dressing, and changing diapers according to state guidelines; serving meals and snacks in accordance with nutritional guidelines
• Observe students to ensure safety according to state guidelines and DCY
• Maintain a sanitary classroom environment by sanitizing and cleaning dishes, toys, and clothing
• Provide detailed information to parents/guardians during pickup
• Maintain student daily sheets and attendance book
• Communicate and cooperate with colleagues and families as part of the Early Learning team, including attending staff meetings as needed
• Work in multiple classrooms as assigned
• Adhere to all JCC and departmental policies
• Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required
• CDA or college degree (Associate’s, Bachelor’s, etc.) in a related field preferred
• Certifications in First Aid, CPR, Child Neglect, and Communicable Diseases to be completed within the first 90 days of employment
• Must pass an FBI/BCI background check and drug screen

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will enjoy working with students ages six weeks to four years and have a high level of interpersonal communication skills.
