Responsibilities

  • Communication
    • Work with the team to complete clear documentation and written reports (daily reports, lesson plans, newsletters, professional development plans) that facilitate communication with parents, co-workers, and regulatory agents
    • Use a variety of communication strategies to support constructive relationships by being accessible, approachable, and engaged
    • Integrate family requests and traditions into the classroom
    • Provide non-judgmental support for parents and respond quickly to parent concerns
  • Assessment
    • Assess each child’s development using progress reports, screening instruments, direct observation, and information from families and other stakeholders
    • Collaborate and communicate assessment information with the classroom team
    • Link assessment information with success-oriented growth opportunities in all developmental domains
  • Compliance and Regulations
    • Maintain knowledge of and compliance with NAEYC code of ethics
    • Maintain knowledge of and compliance with city and state regulations and accreditation requirements governing early education and care programs
    • Accurately complete required Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) documentation, follow rules for food service, and attend CACFP training as necessary
  • Improvement
    • Participate in improving organizational performance by recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data, and providing input to department discussions
    • Work with the classroom lead to maintain budget targets by recommending purchases, staffing structures, and process efficiencies
  • Child Development
    • Collaborate with the team to plan, implement, and communicate age-appropriate activities that facilitate the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of assigned children
    • Provide responsive, developmentally appropriate care for guiding children’s behavior and engagement, such as inquiry, redirection, verbalizing feelings, encouraging problem-solving, and setting consistent limits to help children develop inner control
    • Maintain and demonstrate high-level knowledge of child development and evidence-based practice
    • Provide care and supervision of children in a child care or classroom setting

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ year of work experience in a related job discipline
  • Preferred: Certification in first aid, recognizing child abuse, and recognition of common childhood diseases

Pay

Expected starting pay range: $17.49 - $20.99 per hour. Starting pay is based on experience, skills, and equity; exceptions may apply for highly qualified candidates. Additional pay (e.g., shift, on-call, or weekend differentials) and benefits may apply. Annual pay may vary based on FTE status.
