Industry Skills Instructor (Banking)

Reporting to the hiring manager, this role focuses on teaching and preparing young adults for careers in the banking and financial services industry.

About the role

The Industry Skills Instructor (Banking) will teach courses in:

• Basics of computer applications, such as MS Outlook & Excel
• Banking systems, including CRMs, ledger systems, reporting tools, and deposit, loan & credit processing capabilities
• Introductory content in Consumer Banking and Security Industry Essentials (SIE) certification
• Customer Service fundamentals with experiential learning applications
• Foundational content to prepare participants for SIE certification training

The instructor will work with a well-established curriculum designed to ensure learners achieve baseline competencies for entry-level roles at Fortune 100 companies. Emphasis is placed on experiential learning, hands-on practice, and adapting teaching styles to meet diverse learner needs. The role involves guiding students in professional behavior, building confidence, and advising them on career choices, while also collaborating with the academic team on interdisciplinary projects and supporting junior instructors.

Responsibilities

• Instruct courses in computer applications (e.g., Outlook & Excel), CRM systems, and introductory content related to Consumer Banking and Financial Operations for approximately 50-60 students daily, in classes of 25-30, using a college-aligned curriculum.
• Develop and deliver high-quality, student-driven, and project-based classes that challenge and engage learners.
• Provide guidance for self-directed learning and one-on-one tutoring outside of class.
• Manage the classroom following the Year Up United contract and behavior-modification model.
• Collaborate with other instructors to refine and document the Industry Skills curricula.
• Identify key competencies for instruction to meet college-level and industry-workplace needs.
• Develop and hone assessment tools to measure student learning and growth, ensuring successful transitions to corporate internships.
• Ensure students’ communication abilities and professional skills meet the needs of internship and college partners.
• Coordinate academic team efforts, including collaboration on interdisciplinary projects.
• Provide regular student progress updates through weekly assessments and Work-Based Experience Readiness evaluations.
• Attend and participate in curriculum planning meetings, weekly Academic Team Meetings, and professional development workshops.
• Serve as a coach for a small group of students and facilitate weekly group sessions.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 1-3 years of experience as an educator required.
• Experience with eLearning, computer-enhanced teaching, and blended learning approaches preferred.
• 1+ years of experience in finance, client services, or business preferred.
• 1+ years of experience teaching or working with youth preferred.
• Interest in implementing progressive methodologies and creating hands-on, interactive learning environments.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Proficiency in customer service techniques, Personal Finance, and/or CRMs.
• Experience managing projects with exceptional attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills, mature interpersonal style, and ability to interact with a diverse range of people.
• Strong teamwork skills and willingness to teach during unconventional hours (e.g., evenings or weekends) as necessary.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure.
• Desire to collaborate and be part of a learning team.
• Experience with curriculum, syllabus development, and lesson planning.
• Experience with student assessment and ability to evaluate and improve curriculum.
• Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Schoology, Moodle, Sakai) and virtual/online video tools (e.g., Second Life, Adobe Connect) preferred.

Pay

Salary range: $62,000 - $76,000.

Schedule

Starting January 5, 2026, employees are expected to work on-site at least two days per week (Monday through Thursday, dependent on job requirements). Willingness to teach during the day, evening, or at unconventional times (potentially Saturday) as necessary.

This is an exempt role (paid on a salaried basis). To be eligible for employment, candidates must live and work in a state (or an approved proximate state) where Year Up United operates. Approved proximate states include Connecticut, Indiana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, South Carolina, and Virginia.
