About the role

The Environmental Inspection and Compliance Analyst is responsible for assisting in the enforcement of federal and local pretreatment regulations, worker exposure to toxic substances, and groundwater pollution related to hazardous substances and fuels. This role involves responding to emergencies involving hazardous substances and works in a high-risk, hazardous environment.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in enforcing federal and local pretreatment regulations for industrial waste discharges into the City's sewer system.
  • Assist in monitoring worker exposure to toxic substances in the workplace.
  • Investigate and address groundwater pollution issues related to hazardous substances and fuels.
  • Respond to emergencies involving hazardous substances with police, fire, or state and federal officials.
  • Perform routine inspections and investigations related to environmental compliance.

Requirements

Employees in this class report to a technical supervisor and must possess a bachelor's degree in environmental, biological, chemical, civil, or sanitary engineering, or a related field, with major coursework in these areas. Industry-recognized certifications may substitute for some educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Qualifications

Must have a valid Pennsylvania driver's license. Must be able to work in a high-risk, hazardous environment and perform physical tasks associated with the position.

Skills

Strong analytical skills, knowledge of environmental laws and regulations, ability to work independently and as part of a team, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and familiarity with environmental testing equipment.
