Responsibilities
- Perform grinding, cutting, welding and other fabrication or repair work on company containers, compactors, and other equipment in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
- Performs related work such as flame cutting, bending, forming, beveling, notching of metal and plastic parts.
- Performs on-site repairs at customer locations including hydraulic and electrical work.
- Detail inspections and preventative maintenance on compactors, containers, and equipment.
- Cut, weld, and grind steel components using a plasma cutter, torch, and Mig and Arc welding equipment.
- Bends steel components using a break and shear.
- Fabricates steel components on compactors and containers.
- Utilizes standard shop hand tools, measuring devices, and equipment.
- Troubleshoots electrical components and able to run electrical conduit/wire according to code.
- Complete welding and painting at customer location.
- Completes safety checks on containers, compactors, and trouble shooting of equipment both electrical and hydraulic.
- Completes required paperwork utilizing computer system.
- Ensure all safety devices are in good working order.
- Operate CDL vehicle in accordance to DOT.
- Travel to customer sites for repairs and follow up.
- Work with management on scheduling work.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
- Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Company and OSHA standards.
- May assist in other projects or areas of the shop as needed.
Requirements
- Basic electrical knowledge.
- Familiarity with using a computer.
- Excellent welding and mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of MIG/ARC and stick welding.
- Cutting torch skills; ability to use plasma cutter.
- Knowledge of small shop tools.
- Ability to operate a forklift safely.
- Proficient in the use and interpretation of installation diagrams and troubleshooting manuals.
- Familiar with the use of schematics, wiring diagrams, and related troubleshooting guides pertaining to commercial hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.
Additional Working Conditions/Aspects
- Must have at least a valid Class B CDL.
- Must have a valid DOT Medical Card or able to obtain prior to hire.
- No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years.
- No DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years.
- Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
- Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
- Ability to travel between offices, as required.
- Ability to work flexible hours; overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
- Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
- Must be able to read and speak the English language.
