Industrial Painter-Sterling Day Shift

About the role

The Industrial Painter will be responsible for all aspects of painting industrial equipment, including preparing surfaces, mixing paint, utilizing spraying equipment, operating paint booths, rolling and touching up, and applying decals.

Responsibilities

• Operate paint sprayer or other equipment to apply industrial paint on metals or products.
• Monitor work to ensure desired results.
• Ensure all materials are labeled accurately.
• Clean, sand/grind, and prepare equipment surfaces for painting.
• Inspect all products to ensure end results follow Astec’s guidelines.
• Accomplish all daily painting production requirements and complete assigned paint tasks efficiently.
• Ensure painting assignments meet quality assurance standards (proper material and equipment usage).
• Use paint spray equipment in various positions as well as manual painting products.
• Follow safe work practices and adhere to safety protocols.
• Check production schedule or shop request list and plan work tasks.
• Apply primer and finish coats with attention to safety, quality, and efficiency.
• Mix and match paint, clean and maintain spray guns and other painting equipment.
• Work with unpleasant or toxic fumes and materials while wearing protective and safety equipment.
• Wear a mask, fresh air breathing apparatus, or other safety equipment as needed when working with hazardous vapors.
• Attend weekly department safety meetings.
• Follow company policies, procedures, and safety rules at all times.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including occasional training-related tasks.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 0–1 years of related experience.
• Detail-oriented with strong workmanship and ability to follow direction with little to no supervision.
• Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and as part of a team.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to operate paint spray equipment, mixing equipment, booth equipment, and work from ladders or lifts.
• Ability to select appropriate coatings, paints, or sprays and prepare them by mixing in correct ratios using automated paint mixing equipment.
• Forklift and overhead crane experience required.
• Ability to read and interpret tape measures, engineering drawings, and bills of material (BOMs).

Work Environment

This role operates in a shop manufacturing environment with exposures including moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools, equipment, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, motorized vehicles, welding, machining operations, and outside weather conditions. The employee may occasionally be exposed to dirt, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme temperatures, and risk of electric shock. The noise level in the shop can be very loud, requiring hearing protection. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
