Responsibilities

  • Smooth surfaces and remove old paint using scraping or sandblasting equipment to prepare surfaces for painting.
  • Fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other filler.
  • Select premixed paints or mix pigments, oils, thinning, and drying substances to prepare paint matching specified colors.
  • Paint surfaces using brushes, spray guns (conventional or airless), or paint rollers.
  • Apply paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers to create special effects.
  • Erect scaffolding or set up ladders for tasks above ground level.
  • Create durable finishes that withstand harsh conditions.
  • Apply corrosion protection coatings.
  • Paint interiors and exteriors of buildings and other structures.
  • Wear necessary protective equipment (e.g., respirator, spray hood, hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, hand protection, hearing protection).
  • Travel to various worksites, primarily in the Midwest; overnight travel may be required.
  • Ensure safety of self and others continuously.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • 1–3 years of painting experience (preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (required).
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and blueprints (required).
  • Basic math skills: add/subtract two-digit numbers, multiply/divide by 10s and 100s (required).
  • Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations (required).
  • Meet attendance requirements (required).
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently (required).
  • Ability to work at heights using ladders and lifts (required).
  • Availability for flexible work hours, including evenings, weekends, and/or nights (required).

Physical Demands

  • Regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Frequently stand for long periods, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • Frequently climb ladders, scaffolds, or poles.
  • Constantly lift and/or move up to 25–50 pounds.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50–75 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move more than 75–100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Frequency definitions: Occasionally = 1–25% of the time; Frequently = 26–75% of the time; Constantly = 76–100% of the time.
